Chippewa Flowage was created in 1923 when Northern States Power Company constructed the Winter Dam on the Chippewa River just below the confluence of the East and West forks. While it is widely acknowledged as the premier walleye lake in the Northeast, the smallmouth fishing is also fantastic.
